step 2: sketch
You will be designing any three letters in your original typeface. The first thing that you will need to do is sketch, taking the same care that you did with your first letter you drew. BE AWARE!... Do not fill in any of your sketches with value or color…you only need to create outlines. For some of you this step will be very challenging, but very rewarding. These sketches will be scanned in, and will become the ‘template’ you use in illustrator to create your letterform off of.
You will need to have all three sketches done before you move into Illustrator. You will meet with me in order to discuss your inspiration as well as your decisions when creating your typeface. Remember:

- I require you to work on these outside of class as well as within, so be aware there is no excuse for not coming prepared.
- Use light pencil strokes that are easy to erase in case you mess up, and keep an eraser very handy.
